3 Thriller Reads for Spooky Season

The Good lie by A.R Torre

Author, A.R Torre, known best for her stand out thriller, The girl in 6E, has struck gold again with her release of The Good Lie last July.

The Good lie is told from the perspective of Dr. Gwen Moore, a psychiatrist who is creating a criminal profile for The Bloody Heart Killer, a serial killer who has been slaughtering young, handsome teenage boys in the area and from the perspective of the mother of a boy who has just escaped from the killer’s grasp.

I found The Good Lie to be a balanced mix of intrigue, twists and who dune it clues. As well as including a compelling sad back story for sexy defence lawyer Robert Kavin. The story is fast paced with no filler scenes. Makes for a great read and would make for an excellent movie.

Near the Bone by Christina Henry

In Near the Bone, Mattie and her Husband live on an isolated snowy mountain, cut off from the rest of society. One day they realise they aren’t the only ones on the mountain, and whatever is following them is scarier than they could have ever imagined…

Near the bone carefully unravels important clues about Mattie’s past as the story progresses, which is well written. The atmosphere of the mountain is made life like for the reader and the choice of Henry to write Mattie’s inner dialogue makes the stakes even higher.

Bird Box by Josh Malerman

Many have seen the Bird Box movie starring Sandra Bullock, but not nearly as many people have read the excellent book.

If you like the movie but wanted a bit more horror, this book is for you. The tension created in this novel is unparalleled. A certain scene stays crystal clear in my mind, a true merit to Malerman’s writing.

Get it now. GO.
